- Ministers, Army Chief, others to experience Abuja rail tour, electric cars
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria has dedicated its 2024 National Conference to exploring technology including Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics and other efforts to transform the nation’s transport system.
The chairman of the event planning committee, Prof. Kayode Oyesiku, disclosed this during a press conference announcing the upcoming event on Thursday.
According to him, the national summit which is scheduled to hold at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja from October 8th -9th 2024, is themed; “Transforming Nigeria’s Transportation and Logistics Systems for Development”.
The CILT flagship event will see the convergence of transportation and logistics professionals, Ministers of Transportation, Aviation, Marine and Blue Economy, experts, thought leaders, academics and researchers and industry frontline chief executives to explore the headway for transportation.
As part of the event’s activities, conference delegates will participate in guided tours of immense significance to the profession and the federal capital city of Abuja, namely: Abuja Light Rail Revolution Tour, including the Abuja City to International Airport terminal passenger facilities; and Abuja’s Green Wheels in Motion Electric Car Showcase tour.
Oyesiku, however, itemized some of the topics to be addressed to include; Leveraging technology to optimize transportation infrastructure; Enhancing logistics operations through data analytics; Digital innovation in supply chain management and Collaborative strategies for sustainable development.
“We will explore the latest trends and innovations in transportation and logistics, including artificial intelligence, blockchain, while suggesting government policy and regulation in supporting the growth of the sector that will drive economic growth, and to improve the economic and industrial development of the country that will eventually make Nigeria the trading hub of the continent.
“This year’s CILT conference is a continuum of the success of previous years. It promises to be an event that will attract more participants where sessions on various topics related to transport, and logistics are to be discussed,” he remarked.
Also speaking, the President of CILT Nigeria, Barr. (Mrs.) Mfon Usoro, noted that the popularity of CILT Conference has continuously grown every year with over 500 delegates and participants attending the 2023 conference representing different segments of transport and logistics sector.
Noting that the 2023 CILT Summit featured the presentation of a book which comprised the papers and positions of participants in the preceding year, Usoro disclosed that the Institute hopes to launch the book for 2024 at the upcoming event even though it may consider postponing the book producting to capture 2024 summit papers.
Usoro, however, expressed delight at the rich participation of the next generation of transport professionals who will rub minds on the strategies for transforming the future of transportation and logistics in Nigeria at the conference.
The upcoming CILT Nigeria 2024 national conference will also be organized in conjunction with the Institute Annual General Meeting (AGM).
