The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has recorded strong industry backing as it intensifies preparations for a high-level reception to honour its former presidents, signaling growing momentum ahead of the event.
Organisers say the ceremony, conceived as a tribute to leadership and service within maritime journalism, has attracted widespread interest from key stakeholders across the sector. With planning now at an advanced stage, the association reports a surge in endorsements and commitments from both public and private sector players.
Scheduled for April 24, 2026, in Apapa, Lagos, the event is expected to convene an influential mix of policymakers, regulators, terminal operators, shipping firms, freight forwarders, and media professionals. Beyond celebrating past leaders, the gathering is positioned to spotlight the strategic role of the media in driving transparency, shaping policy, and supporting reforms within Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy space.
The Chairman of MARAN’s Caretaker Committee, Tunde Ayodele, described the reception as a moment of reflection on the association’s evolution and the contributions of its past executives in building a credible and respected industry voice.
He noted that the platform would also deepen engagement between journalists and maritime stakeholders at a critical period of transformation in the sector.
Echoing this, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Funso Olojo, disclosed that top government officials, including representatives from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, alongside heads of maritime agencies, have signified interest in attending.
According to him, the event will not only recognise the achievements of former MARAN leaders but also showcase their continued impact across diverse fields, including media, law, public service, and ministry.
He emphasised that the honourees have remained exemplary figures, whose contributions have elevated the association’s standing and influenced the broader maritime ecosystem.
The programme will feature award presentations, goodwill messages, and strategic networking sessions aimed at strengthening collaboration within the industry.
As anticipation builds, MARAN has called on corporate bodies, industry stakeholders, and individuals to support the initiative through sponsorships and partnerships, framing the reception as a defining moment in celebrating excellence within maritime journalism.
Widely regarded as a pioneer among beat associations in Nigeria, MARAN continues to champion ethical reporting, professional development, and informed coverage of the maritime and blue economy sectors.
