The National Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) has staged the Abuja Green City Tour, leveraging the initiative to spotlight sustainable transport and eco-tourism opportunities in Nigeria’s capital.
Held on April 30, 2026, the event convened tourism operators, industry stakeholders, sponsors, and guests in a coordinated push to advance environmentally responsible travel and mobility solutions.
NATOP President, Bolaji Mustapha, described the exercise as a strategic intervention rather than a routine excursion, noting that it aligns with broader efforts to reshape Nigeria’s tourism narrative around sustainability, innovation, and collaboration.
Participants were taken through key cultural and environmental sites across Abuja, including the National Assembly Museum, Garki Palace, selected religious centres, art galleries, and BMT Gardens, alongside a guided drive through designated green corridors within the city.
Mustapha emphasised that integrating sustainable transport systems into tourism planning is critical to unlocking long-term value, enhancing visitor experience, and positioning Nigeria as a forward-looking destination.
The association also acknowledged the role of sponsors and partners in delivering the initiative, reiterating its commitment to sustained collaboration in strengthening the tourism ecosystem.
Stakeholders at the event called for deeper investment in eco-friendly infrastructure, innovation-driven tourism models, and cross-sector partnerships to elevate Nigeria’s competitiveness within the African tourism market.
The Abuja Green City Tour is part of NATOP’s ongoing agenda to position Nigeria as a leading hub for sustainable tourism on the continent.
