The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Blue Economy, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, has made history as the first African Director on the Board of Interferry, the global association representing the international ferry industry.
Emmanuel’s appointment was ratified during Interferry’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on October 6 in Sorrento, Italy, where six new directors were inducted to broaden the organization’s global reach.
Joining board members from Europe, Asia, and the Americas, Emmanuel begins a four-year term, bringing a wealth of expertise in marine transport development, urban ferry systems, and sustainable blue economy initiatives.
Interferry hailed him as “an experienced leader passionate about leveraging innovative solutions to connect communities and ensure environmental sustainability,” noting his pivotal role in shaping Lagos State’s integrated water transport system and advancing its blue economy agenda.
His appointment marks a historic milestone for Africa and further elevates Lagos’ standing in the global maritime space, especially in ferry safety, innovation, and climate-resilient coastal transport.
At the same AGM, Götz Becker of FRS was elected Chairman of the Board, reaffirming Interferry’s commitment to driving sustainable growth and operational excellence across the global ferry sector.
