A Nigerian maritime amazon and immediate-past Port Manager of Apapa port, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Olotu, has been honoured as the country’s Most Outstanding Woman in Ports Operations.
Olotu, who recently retired as Assistant General Manager, Tariff & Billing, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), bagged the award at the 2024 Women in Maritime and Energy (WIME) Awards, at the Civic Center, Lagos, on Friday.
At the event themed, “Inspiring Inclusion: Investing in Women and Accelerating Progress,” the veteran port operator was celebrated for her sterling performance as Port Manager of Apapa Port.
Speaking after receiving the award, Olotu expressed delight to be receiving acknowledgments and compliments despite being retired.
In her acceptance speech, she charged women not to use their gender as an excuse to underperform; but strive to make giant strides in the nation’s maritime sector.
