The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Barr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima, has commended APM Terminals Apapa, Nigeria’s largest container terminal, for its massive port investments.

Akutah gave this commendation during his inaugural visit to the terminal, expressing delight at the substantial investment in the port as well as a clean and orderly work environment.

While acknowledging the positive strides made by APM Terminals Apapa in deploying technology, Ukeyima highlighted the need to collaboratively move forward to achieve the sector’s mandate.

As a regulator, he underscored the NSC’s responsibility to formulate policies that regulate activities in the sector and ensure the realization of set objectives.

Expressing optimism about aligning technological advancements, Ukeyima said; “what they have done in terms of deployment of technology is quite promising, and I believe that on our part, by the time we also deploy technology, it will be easy for us to achieve the port conducive system that we are looking for.”

Assuring terminal operators of ongoing consultation and collaboration in the policy and decision-making process, Ukeyima outlined the NSC’s commitment to fostering a conducive and efficient port system.

In response, Steen Knudsen, the Terminal Manager at APM Terminals Apapa, shared that the terminal has not only invested substantially in cargo handling equipment but has also prioritized human capital development.
