The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) is set to deepen its existing partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) for human capital development.
NIM President, Dr Christiana Atako, disclosed the institute’s position during a hybrid meeting on Wednesday at the SMEDAN headquarters.
This move, Atako said, was to enhance human capital development and engender Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) longevity in the country.
She said the meeting was to work out modalities to continue with the training initiative the Institute started with the agency last year.
Besides the agency’s mandate as the voice and intermediary of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and government, Atako encouraged the organization to continue to play its assigned roles in its enabling Act under the new Director General’s watch.
She canvassed for both organisations to hold a stakeholders’ summit on ‘Management Imperatives for Sustainability of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).’
This, according to her, is to address the problem of longevity of SMEs and startup businesses which usually fail after five years due to poor management practices.
“As a chief executive that values the importance of capacity building and professional management training amongst staff, I am convinced that you will keep faith with the spirit and letters of the training arrangement even though it did not start under your leadership”, she stressed.
Director General, SMEDAN, Dr Charles Obii, noted that training of the agency’s staff by the NIM last year had already impacted their productivity.
Obi, who was represented by Mr. Daberuje Lawani, a Director with with agency pledged to pass the prayers of the Institute to the Director General for accent and implementation.
