The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has announced the reopening of the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal for passenger ferry operations with effect from Monday, January 19, 2026.

The terminal was shut on October 20, 2025, following serious navigational challenges caused by water hyacinth infestation, which prompted LASWA to temporarily divert ferry services to Ibeshe Terminal and Offin Jetty to ensure commuter safety and service continuity.

In a statement issued on Friday, LASWA said the decision to reopen the terminal followed the successful clearance of the affected waterways, comprehensive safety assessments, and consultations with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

With the terminal now certified safe for operations, all ferry operators have been directed to immediately resume normal services in line with their approved routes and schedules. LASWA also reiterated the need for strict adherence to all existing safety and operational regulations.

The authority assured commuters of its continued commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient inland water transport across Lagos State, urging passengers to cooperate with operators and comply with safety guidelines as services fully resume at the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal.
