The Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS) is set to host the maritime community to a Breakfast Meeting, themed “Nigeria’s 2023 Economic Outlook: Special Focus on Maritime Shipping Industry” on Thursday, February 9th, 2023.
According to the organizers, the event will provide a platform for stakeholders from the Maritime Shipping sector of the economy to discuss and analyze likely economic, social, and policy trends for 2023 in line with the current global realities with particular focus on current developments in the industry.
Speaking on the upcoming programme, Director General at the NCS, Vivian Chimezie-Azubuike stated that year 2022 was quite eventful with a few developments in the industry, which should precipitate economic growth on short term and long-term basis.
Chimezie-Azubuike identified some of the dvelopments in 2022 to include; the Deep Blue Project, the development of the Lekki Deep Port, the approval of the disbursement of the Cabotage Vessel Finance Funds (CVFF) by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR , the establishment of some Inland Dry Ports, refurbishment of the rails, among others which are clear indicators of an economically viable maritime industry.
According to her, the webinar is aimed at setting the tone for the year by providing the needed opportunity for stakeholders and practitioners in the industry to interact and learn directly from Economic and Maritime experts with a view to staying informed and knowledgeably empowered to make the right decisions in their socio-economic activities in year 2023.
She noted that the event will be hosting a Guest Speaker, Dr Chamberlain Peterside, Executive Director, Xcellon Capital Advisors Limited, a reputed economic advisor who comes with diverse background spanning over 23 years in the global business arena, covering Investment Advisory, Wealth Management and Public Finance.
The panelists at the upcoming event include; a seasoned maritime operator and Chairman of the Seaport Terminal Operators of Nigeria (STOAN), Princess Dr Vicky Haastrup; a tax expert and partner at KPMG, Akinwale Alao; and a seasoned maritime lawyer and Chairman Zoe Maritime Resources, Barr. Oritsematosan Edodo-Emore.
