Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc has strengthened its reputation as Nigeria’s innovation-driven aviation ground handling company with the acquisition of the EVAC+CHAIR emergency evacuation system, becoming the first and only ground handling company in the country to deploy the specialised mobility equipment for passengers with reduced mobility.
The strategic investment reinforces SAHCO’s commitment to safety, accessibility and inclusive service delivery by ensuring that passengers with mobility challenges receive dignified, efficient and world-class assistance during aircraft boarding, disembarkation and emergency situations.
Globally recognised as the world’s leading stairway evacuation chair since 1982, the EVAC+CHAIR is engineered to transport passengers safely up and down stairways using an advanced gravity and friction control system. The technology eliminates the need for heavy lifting, significantly reducing physical strain on operators while ensuring passenger comfort and safety.
Equipped with secure safety harnesses, durable rubber track systems and an ergonomic design, the chair enables trained personnel to assist passengers who cannot move independently, improving operational efficiency while enhancing the overall travel experience.

In 2025, the company became the first and only aviation ground handling firm in the country to deploy the Rapiscan Itemiser 5X, an advanced Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) system recommended by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The Itemiser 5X significantly enhanced aviation security by enabling the rapid detection of a broad spectrum of explosives and narcotics through its advanced detection capabilities.
