Nigeria and Denmark have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in maritime development, with both nations pledging to expand collaboration in seafarer training, maritime security, and port infrastructure enhancement.

During a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in Lagos, the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Jens Ole Bach Jansen, highlighted Denmark’s longstanding partnership with Nigeria, noting that Danish public and private sector investments have contributed significantly to the growth of the nation’s maritime industry.

Ambassador Jansen stated that Denmark remains committed to exploring new areas of engagement with Nigeria, particularly in capacity development, safety management, and digital innovation within the maritime domain.

He added that Danish expertise in port operations, logistics, and maritime technology could further boost Nigeria’s blue economy agenda.

Welcoming the Danish delegation, NIMASA Director General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, expressed appreciation for Denmark’s sustained support.

“On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Nigerian Government, I thank the Danish Government for its consistent partnership in this vital sector. Danish companies have made notable contributions to port and maritime infrastructure, and we look forward to deepening this relationship,” he said.

Key areas of collaboration between both countries include training for maritime law enforcement officers, digitalization of maritime processes, and joint maritime security initiatives. Notably, Denmark has supported projects such as the Ship-in-a-Box (SIAB) simulator, implemented with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), which enhances practical skills for Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) operations.

Danish companies like APM Terminals continue to play a major role in port infrastructure development across Nigeria, with investments spanning Lagos, Onne, and Kano, reinforcing Denmark’s position as a key partner in advancing Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy ambitions.
