2023 Elections: Nigerian Celebrities With Political Aspirations
As Nigeria gears towards her general elections in 2023, many events have rocked the political sphere of the country. The nation’s political scene is stereotyped to recycle leaders but the personality of political aspirants for next year’s political seat is puzzling to say the least.
Famous celebrities in the entertainment industry have joined the queue of aspiring leaders to contribute their quota for better leadership and governance in the country.
Below are famous Nigerian celebrities who have swept their roles in the entertainment sector under the carpet to clinch power in 2023.
Funke Akindele
On Tuesday, Funke Akindele, ex- wife of Abdulraheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, confirmed her quest to run as Deputy Governor , Lagos state for Olajide Adediran under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023. Before this new thirst for political power, Funke Akindele has experienced a flourishing career as a producer, actress and businesswoman.
In a national interview, Funke said that her acting career must be on halt for her to focus on her political goal. She also promised to use the position to protect the interest of youths, women and children in the state.
She was born on 27th, August 1976 and a native of Ikorodu local government, Lagos state. Funke is a proud mother of twin boys.
Funke has endeared many Nigerians through her comic movies especially her produced sitcom series; Jenifa’s Diary.
Banky W
R and B singer, Olubankole Wellington is another celebrity under the PDP’s ticket running for the Federal House of Representative for Eti-Osa constituency. He won with 24 count votes from 29 delegates. Banky W’s first attempt in securing the same position was in 2019 wasn’t successful, but he continues to produce songs despite his interest in politics. This year, he produced the love music- ‘Song For You’. Banky is a proud husband to Adesua Etomi Wellington and they are parents to a son. His birthday is on March 27 1981.
Desmond Elliot
Desmond is not a new kid on the block when politics is mentioned. The Lagosian is an old string having served as a Representative in the Lagos State House of Assembly for two terms consecutively. Desmond represents Surulere Constituency 1 from 2015 till date.
Likewise, he aspires to hold the same position in the upcoming 2023 general elections. Interestingly, Desmond had maintained an unopposed position from the All Progressives Congress (APC). If he wins, Desmond would be a third time representative for Surulere constituency 1. The 48 year old is married to Victoria Elliot with three boys and a girl.
Prince Odianosen Okojie
Odi’s marriage to Mercy Johnson in 2011 brought him to limelight. Thus, his moves has become of public interest. As a native of Uromu Edo state, Odi is vying to represent the people of Esan North/ South East in the Federal constituency. He is a member of APC party and his first attempt at the position was nullified in 2018. Odi and Mercy Okojie has four kids; three girls and a boy. Odi was born on November 17th 1973.
Ned Nwoko
Prince Chinedu Munir aka Ned Nwoko is another individual whose role as a husband made him famous. Though a billionaire, Ned was not famous until his marriage to Regina Daniels in 2019. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is currently itching to become a Senator for Delta North district. This is an upgrade because Ned has served as a member of the House of Representatives for Aniocha North-South and Oshimili North-South between 1999 to 2003.
Aside from Regina who shares two sons with Ned, he had five wives with numerous children before Regina. Ned was born on 21th December 1960 and is a Muslim.
