WiLAT Founder ‘Aisha Ali-Ibrahim’ Nominated For OMIS Award

The Founder and Global Convener of Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT), Hajia Aisha Ali-Ibrahim has emerged as one of the Nigerian maritime bigwigs nominated for the Maritime and Offshore Award (The OMIS).

According to the event organizers, Aisha’s nomination is in recognition of her immense contributions to the nation’s port sector over the years.

Other eminent maritime executives and professionals to be celebrated include; Former Managing Director, Nigerian Port Authority, Adebayo Sarumi; Former Minister of Interior, Captain Emmanuel Iheanacho; Chairman, Starzs Investment, Greg Ogbeifun; President of the Nigerian Maritime Law Association, Mrs. Olufunke Agbor, SAN; Chief Executive Officer, LADOL, Dr. Amy Jadesimi; National President, Women in Energy, Oil and Gas (WEOG) Nigeria, Dr. Oladunni Owo; among others.

Speaking on Ali-Ibrahim’s nomination, a former Director General of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, Mrs. Ify Akerele, who is also a member of the Panel of Judges for the Award, expressed her excitement even as she posited that it was a true testament of the WiLAT Founder’s contribution to the sector.

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of the OMIS, Femi Da-Silva congratulated Aisha Ali-Ibrahim on the nomination.

Da-Silva, however, revealed that several organizations including; Samsung Heavy Industries (SHIN), Starzs Investment, SIFAX Group, NLNG Ship Management Limited (NLSM), Integrated Oil and Gas, Brisktrade, Comet Shipping, APM Terminals; Niger Dock; Shipside Dry Limited; Bureau Veritas; American Bureau of Shipping; BW Offshore; Diolits Marine Services; MEDLOG Transport & Logistics; Ocean Deep Services Ltd, LTT Coastal & Marine Services Ltd; ENL Consortium; Niger Benue Transport Company Ltd; ECM Terminals; Charkin Maritime Academy; KOBO360; are in the various corporate categories of the award.

Other companies shortlisted for the award include; Peak Shipping Agency, Bricks Limited, Lead Way Assurance, AIICO General Insurance, NEM Insurance, Allianz Nigeria Insurance, OnePort365, Trucks Transit Parks Limited, Lloyd’s Register, Nigerian Navy.

The OMIS Award aims to serve as a catalyst for the continued development of the sector through the appreciation of the most silent but incredible work that is being done by stakeholders; to highlight innovations and achievements in the field as well as raise awareness and beam the searchlight on important issues that do not always get the attention they deserve, and subsequently promote further improvement.

Nominations for the Award closed in April 2022 and the ceremony is slated to hold on September 24th at the Lagos Oriental Hotel.
