Niger State is inviting fresh investments across air, road, rail, and waterways to fuel economic growth and improve public safety, Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba declared on Thursday.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Umar Bago, Garba vowed the administration would back any initiative that boosts lives, security, and the economy.
“The governor I know will not hesitate to support efforts that enhance our image, economy, and safety,” he said.
He urged stronger Federal and State collaboration, warning that states are stretched thin across critical needs from security and agriculture to education and healthcare.
While acknowledging waterways’ importance, Garba pressed for the same level of private-sector partnership seen in air, rail, and road transport. “Adequate routes and fibre boats will solve many of our waterway problems,” he noted.
The deputy governor also took aim at superstitions blamed for river accidents. “Culture is real, but superstition is perception. In the 21st century, we should be talking technology, not ancestral myths,” he said.
On governance, Garba called out the gulf between policy and practice stating that “our policy papers rank among the best globally, but our implementation is the weak link.”
