Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, senior federal ministers, and leading industry stakeholders are set to headline the 2026 Global Transport Policy (GTP) Annual Multimodal Roundtable, a high-level policy forum aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s transport ecosystem.

The roundtable, scheduled for June 17, 2026, will take place at the Lagos Marriott Hotel Ikeja and is expected to bring together transport policymakers, private-sector operators, academics, and regional partners to chart practical pathways toward safer, greener, and more integrated transport systems.

Organised by Global Transport Policy, the forum is themed “Transforming Nigeria’s Transport System: Integrating Solutions for Safety, Efficiency, and Sustainability.” Over the past three years, the annual roundtable has evolved into a strategic policy dialogue platform linking decision-makers from federal and state governments with industry experts and development partners, including the Economic Community of West African States.

The organisers say the 2026 edition comes at a critical time as Nigeria seeks to strengthen domestic productivity and expand trade opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area. Persistent logistics inefficiencies continue to drive distribution costs to between 20 and 30 per cent of the value of goods — far above global benchmarks — while limited access to road infrastructure still constrains market access in many communities.

Chief Operating Officer of Global Transport Policy, Onoruoiza Mark Onuchi, said the roundtable will focus on bridging these gaps through coordinated planning and stronger institutional frameworks.

“Nigeria’s competitiveness depends on how efficiently we move people and goods,” he said, adding that the forum will explore proposals such as bonded multimodal corridors and the creation of a National Multimodal Logistics Council to improve efficiency across the transport value chain.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to attend alongside key transport ministers and heads of major agencies who will deliver keynote addresses and policy presentations.

The programme will feature expert panel discussions on integrated transport systems, safe and smart mobility, workforce development in the transport sector, and the transition to greener mobility solutions. Discussions are also expected to highlight recent policy developments, including the newly approved National Land Transport Policy.

Organisers say the roundtable will generate actionable recommendations aimed at accelerating corridor development, strengthening public-private partnerships, deploying intelligent transport systems, and reducing logistics costs for businesses and consumers.

Corporate partners, logistics operators, development agencies, civil society organisations, and the media have been invited to participate, as the forum seeks to translate policy discussions into measurable outcomes for Lagos and Nigeria’s broader transport network.
