The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) Complaints Unit has saved the Nigerian economy an estimated N4.8 billion through its dispute resolution and consumer protection interventions over the past two years, outgoing Head of the Unit, Dr. Bashir Ambi, has disclosed.

Reflecting on his tenure, which began on June 11, 2024, Dr. Ambi thanked God and the leadership of the NSC for the opportunity to serve, describing the N4.8 billion savings as one of the unit’s most significant achievements.
“I am proud to hand over a clean slate and a solid foundation,” he said. “We have built on the legacy we inherited, and I am confident my successor will build on this trajectory, add immense value and further establish the Complaints Unit as a benchmark of excellence within the Council.”
Presenting the official handover note on behalf of the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima, Esq., MON, FCILT, Dr. Ambi said comprehensive operational documents had been prepared to ensure a seamless transition.
The handover documents include; detailed operational reports and performance records from the third quarter of 2024, the unit’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), duty schedules, a comprehensive registry of files, asset inventories and updates on ongoing assignments.
He urged Dr. Saka to bring fresh ideas and innovations that would further strengthen the Complaints Unit’s role in protecting port users and resolving trade-related disputes.
“I look forward to seeing you add immense value and elevate the Complaints Unit so that it remains a primary point of reference,” he said.
Dr. Ambi also praised members of the Complaints Unit for their professionalism and commitment, urging them to give the incoming head their full cooperation.
Colleagues and staff who witnessed the ceremony described Dr. Ambi’s retirement as an “iconic exit,” applauding his integrity, leadership and the high standards he established during his stewardship of the NSC Complaints Unit.
