Naval Officers’ Wives Hold Beach Fair In Lagos
As part of activities to mark the ongoing Presidential Fleet Review of the Nigerian Navy, the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA) held a beach fair in Lagos, today.
The beach fair provided an entertaining ambience for relaxation with boat rides, light exercises and dance sessions for the women.
Speaking at the event, the National President of NOWA, Hajiya Aisha Gambo, noted that wives of senior Naval officers have a significant role to play by sustaining a peaceful home to enable the men get sufficient rest and give their best in service.
“As wives of Naval officers, there is no doubt that it is a significant role because every wife of a military officer knows that she must give her husband peace. The nature of their work is already strenuous, so we have to ensure that when they get back there is an appreciable degree of peace at home. It is the role of the wife to build an ambience of peace and love at the home. This peace at home helps fuel the men with courage and tenacity to carry out their tasks as officers,” she said.
Aisha, who is also the wife of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, disclosed that the Nigerian Navy is currently having its Presidential Fleet Review where the President, Muhammadu Buhari visits to inspect the assets of the Navy, especially the vessels
“As that event takes place, it is the men that are having that programme and we felt the women shouldn’t stay at home. So, we decided to come out to have fun and enjoy ourselves. That’s the idea behind this Beach Fair we are having today,” she added.
Meanwhile, the President, Defense and Police Officers Wives Association, Mrs. Vicky Irabor observed that NOWA is part of her association, adding that she had an enjoyable experience at the Beach Fair with NOWA women today.
“It has been a very enjoyable experience. This is one of the ways to give men our support. As the men are going about the special activities to mark the Presidential Fleet Review for 2023, we are giving them our support. I have particularly enjoyed the NOWA activity today as we had a boat ride, interesting dance sessions and lots of refreshments,” Irabor said.
