The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has commenced the sale of nomination forms for its forthcoming Western Zone chapter elections, with the association rolling out stringent eligibility requirements and warning against misconduct during the electoral process.
NAGAFF Electoral Commission (NECOM) Acting Chairman, Mr. Justice Ngige, announced that nomination forms went on sale on Monday, and directed that the forms must be completed and returned on or before Thursday, June 18, 2026.
According to NECOM, prospective candidates are required to obtain nomination forms and submit supporting documents at the commission’s front desk, including valid membership identification cards and evidence of updated NAGAFF and Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) payments.
The electoral commission posited that only registered members of the chapters where elections are being contested would be eligible to run, adding that aspirants must be at least 25 years old and must have maintained NAGAFF membership for no less than two months before the election.
In addition, contestants are expected to possess relevant qualifications in freight forwarding practice or hold valid CRFFN membership with up-to-date subscriptions.
NECOM noted that alumni of the NAGAFF Academy and affiliated maritime institutions would enjoy preference, while employees of freight forwarding and licensed customs firms may register through their employers.
For chairmanship aspirants, NECOM stipulated a higher age threshold, stating that candidates for the position must not be younger than 30 years.
The electoral body further stressed that aspirants must have paid annual NAGAFF subscriptions for at least two months preceding the election, adding that the Executive Chairman and National President reserve the right to verify chapter dues. It warned that non-compliance with payment obligations could lead to outright disqualification.
Candidates are also required to present a minimum of two referees who are registered NAGAFF members in good standing.
Voting, according to NECOM, will be conducted through a physical secret ballot at the NAGAFF Headquarters between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., after which votes will be counted and results declared immediately.
The commission also maintained that it reserves the authority to disqualify any candidate found wanting after due consultations, while warning against abusive language, intimidation, violence or actions capable of destabilising chapters. Offenders, it said, could face sanctions ranging from disqualification to expulsion.
On financial obligations, NECOM outlined separate requirements for existing and new members seeking participation in the electoral process.
Existing members are expected to clear four years of annual NAGAFF subscriptions spanning 2023 to 2026, amounting to N17,000. The breakdown includes N2,500 each for 2023 and 2024, and N6,000 each for 2025 and 2026. They are also required to provide proof of CRFFN subscription payments covering the same period.
New members, meanwhile, are to pay a N10,000 registration fee alongside a N6,000 annual subscription, bringing the total to N16,000, while registration with CRFFN for the 2026 year remains mandatory for screening eligibility.
NECOM disclosed that ongoing chapter registration for the election will close on Thursday, June 18, 2026, noting that only members registered within the stipulated period would qualify for screening. Chapter registers, it added, would be collected for accreditation, and only names appearing on the official register would be screened.
Electioneering activities officially opened on Monday, May 18, and will close 24 hours before the polls.
The commission further announced that election petition tribunals would commence sitting immediately after the election at the NAGAFF headquarters for a maximum of two days, warning that members indebted to their chapters through unpaid remittances also risk disqualification.
The Western Zone chapters participating in the election include Apapa, Tincan, PTML, Airport, KLT, Ikorodu and Seme Border chapters.
