- I have a track record of diligence, quality service – Mukaila
The race for the Board of Trustees (BOT) membership of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has gotten hotter with the emergence of the Association’s former National Secretary and Sole Administrator, Otunba Abdulazeez Babatunde Mukaila, with a promise for innnovation and transparency.
Mukaila, while engaging journalists in Lagos on Thursday, observed that the role of the BOT has been misinterpreted and abused leading to conflicts in the association.
Alhaji Mukaila, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Mickey Excellency Nigeria Ltd, licensed by Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) since 2000, said; “I have a track-record of efficiency, transparency and diligence in over 14-year leadership roles in ANLCA.”
“I believe more than ever before that ANLCA needs my presence on the board. After wide consultations I gave in to the yearnings of ANLCA members. Honestly, I didn’t want to run initially but later gave in after appeals from colleagues and friends.”
He expressed optimism that his involvement in ANLCA BOT will change the narratives and redefine the board’s activities, especially in drawing the boundary between BOT roles and National Executives.
“ANLCA needs to embrace innovation and I believe my presence will change the dynamics and change the way the BOT is operated. We need to redefine the roles of the board vis-a-vis the roles of the executives. The role of ANLCA BOT is clearly defined under Section 5 of the association’s constitution. It isn’t the job of the BOT to run the affairs of the association.”
Mukaila, who is well-respected as the association’s longest serving Chairman of the Electoral Committee, maintained that ANLCA’s biggest challenges in the past have resulted from an undefined and abused role of Board members.
Mukaila’s leadership roles at ANLCA can be traced from his appointment as an interim Secretary of Apapa Port Chapter of ANLCA in 2008. In 2009, he was appointment Chairman Association Electoral commission (ASECO) and he served in that capacity until 2017.
His ASECO committee transformed ANLCA’s electoral system by creating an interactive website and valid biometric membership register to restrict each corporate company to particular Chapter of the Association within the three geopolitical zones.
In 2018, Mukaila was elected as ANLCA National Secretary and he served admirably until July 2023, when he was appointed the Sole Administrator for two months amid the electioneering process that birthed the present National Executive Committee (NECOM).
