The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Dr. (Mrs.) Magdalene Nwanwuche Ajani has been honoured as the Face Of Maritime International (FOMI) Grand Matron.
The Honour was conferred on Dr. Ajani at the Grand Finale of the 2022 Face Of Maritime International tagged “A Night of Beauty and Women Empowerment” which held last Sunday in Lekki-Lagos.
Dr. Ajani hails from Agbor, Delta State. She holds Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery, MBBS degrees from the University of Benin, Edo state.
She joined the federal civil service in 2006 as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the State House Medical Centre and rose to the position of Director in 2013.
She is a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, fellow of the International College of Surgeons, and Glaucoma subspecialist of International Council of Ophthalmology.
Until her appointment as the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transportation by President Muhammedu Buhari, Dr. Ajani was the Permanent Secretary, Service Policies and Strategies Office, SPSO, Office of the Head of Service of the Federation.
Since her appointment as Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Dr Ajani has taken the Nigerian Transport cum maritime sector by storm, bringing her energetic zeal, as well as her adminstrative and leadership competences to bear in all issues, thereby steering the activities of the Transport Ministry towards the right direction.
Within two years in office, Dr Ajani has made several indelible marks in the Transport sector by making her presence felt, being in the right place at the right time, speaking the right topics at appropriate occasions and addressing issues squarely without fear or favour.
Ajani has become the most active and most effective Permanent Secretary that the Federal Ministry of Transportation has produced in decades. Hence, the Girls Go-To-Sea Campaign Initiative, organisers of Face Of Maritime International has bestowed on her the honour of being The Grand Matron, Face Of Maritime International (FOMI).
Speaking shortly after receiving the honour, Dr. Ajani appreciated the organisers of Face Of Maritime International for the recognition which she described as “an honour dear to her heart because it’s about gender advocacy, mentorship and women empowerment”.
The Permanent Secretary who was represented by the Deputy Director, Cabotage and Shipping Development of FMOT, Mrs Rita Zoaka Machar commended the great value that FOMI has added to the maritime sector over the years through its pet projects.
She promised to explore areas of support and collaboration with the brand to ensure great participation of women in maritime careers.
