The Lagos State government has vowed to clampdown on extortion schemes targeting residents, particularly motorists, perpetrated by individuals posing as enforcement officials.
Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa reiterated the government’s stance on prohibiting the collection of funds for local governments on Lagos streets, highlighting the arrest of individuals falsely claiming to represent various local authorities.
Asserting the government’s commitment to legal action, Musa cautioned others engaged in similar activities, emphasizing ongoing vigilance and enforcement efforts.
He stressed the illegality of local government personnel conducting roadside revenue collections, citing the Lagos State Road Traffic Law, Section Eighteen, 2018, which mandates such operations solely under the purview of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Addressing the press, Olawale Musa, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, issued a stern warning following the apprehension of eleven counterfeit enforcement officers operating at the Ibeju-Lekki junction and Akodo area.
Musa emphasized the administration’s unwavering stance against allowing unscrupulous elements to exploit citizens, especially amid prevailing economic hardships.
