After weeks of stakeholder engagements, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is set to implement an updated version of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) valuation system which captures accidented vehicles, depreciation in value and other challenges earlier identified by freight agents. As part of efforts to enhance distribution of cargoes across the nation, Nigeria is projecting the movement of over two million containers on the nation’s inland waterways annually by 2025. Barely three weeks after the federal government directed the reopening of the land borders, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted eight trailers of 50kg bags of rice, among other seizures worth N100,132,756 at Ogun 1 Command. The Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Command, Comptroller Bamidele Makinde revealed this during a press briefing in Idiroko, today. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, in connection with alleged diversion of funds and money laundering to the tune of N80bn. The spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed this in a statement on Monday titled, ‘EFCC arrests Ahmed Idris, Accountant General of the Federation, for N80bn Fraud’. According to the Commission, Idris was arrested after failing to honour an invitation. The Coordinator of Port Standing Task Team (PSTT), Mr. Moses Fadipe has said that for the ports corridors to be freed, the team needs to work with the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigerian (MWUN). A popular Nollywood actor, Leo Mezie, has died at 46. Born Leonard Chimezie Onyemachi, it was gathered that he died on Saturday while recovering from a kidney transplant. The death of the actor was announced on Monday by his colleague, Chioma Toplis via her Instagram account. Toplis revealed that the thespian died in a hospital in a hospital in Abuja.
