One year after President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned the Deep Blue Project, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has taken delivery of additional mobile assets for enhanced maritime security under the project. Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society has confirmed the presence of a gas reservoir in Amorji Nike, Enugu State, and has advised on how to put a stop to the ongoing fire caused by the activities of drillers. In a communiqué signed by the society’s President, Alabo Charlesye, it ruled out the occurrence of punctured gas pipes in the area. Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to sanction operators who flout economic regulations in the nation’s maritime sector. The ongoing widespread blackout across the country which started on Sunday is expected to continue, following the collapse of the national power grid, making it the fifth collapse of Nigeria’s electricity grid in 2022. It was learnt that the grid collapse on Sunday occurred around 6.49pm, leading to the shutdown of the outgoing electricity feeders of some power distribution companies. Nigeria’s crude oil output has plunged to new low in recent weeks hit by pipeline closures and maintenance at major fields, an S&P Global industry report has indicated.
