Pastor Evelyn Joshua has urged Christians to embrace hope, integrity and unwavering faith as essential virtues for navigating today’s economic, social and spiritual challenges.
Speaking at the 2026 Living Water Service held on Friday at the Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN) headquarters in Lagos, the church leader challenged thousands of worshippers from across the world to build lives rooted in God’s Word rather than fear or fleeting worldly pursuits.
Preaching on the theme, “Standing by the Power of the Cross,” from 1 Corinthians 1:18–20, Pastor Evelyn Joshua said genuine faith should be reflected in both words and actions.
“To take the name of Jesus Christ into your day is about speaking and acting in a way that reflects His character. Whatever you do, do it in the name of Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God through Him.”
Describing the Bible as “the chronicle of God’s love for His people,” she stressed that the Cross remains the bridge between humanity and God, offering hope, peace and salvation despite life’s trials.
“The Cross boldly stands against our fears,” she said. “In the world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer, for God has overcome the world.”
Addressing identity and purpose, Pastor Evelyn Joshua assured believers that lasting security comes from belonging to God.
“You have been included among those who belong to God. In belonging, there is acceptance and security that cannot be taken away,” she said, adding that discovering God through love and peace gives people “a new purpose and a new identity.”
She also lamented the growing spiritual emptiness in a world driven by material success and technological advancement.
“Many are hungry and thirsty for something that can truly satisfy. True peace comes from knowing God,” she said.
Calling for personal reflection, Pastor Evelyn Joshua urged worshippers to overcome bitterness, anger, envy and pride, stressing that spiritual maturity is revealed through trials and obedience to God.
“No matter how unsteady your life may appear, make God’s Word the standard for your life,” she charged.
The 2026 Living Water Service drew thousands of worshippers from Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas for worship, prayer and spiritual renewal. Beyond its religious significance, the event delivered a message of hope, resilience and moral responsibility at a time of widespread global economic uncertainty and humanitarian challenges.
