Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has reinforced security at Nigeria’s seaports with the donation of tactical and protective equipment to the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, in a move aimed at strengthening policing, protecting critical maritime infrastructure, and enhancing trade facilitation.
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has donated a range of security accoutrements to the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command as part of ongoing efforts to bolster security across the nation’s seaports and waterfronts.
The presentation, held on Wednesday at the Lagos Port Complex, saw the Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex, Mr. Adebowale Lawal, represent the Managing Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, alongside other senior officials of the Authority.
Speaking during the handover, Lawal said the donation reflects the NPA’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the security architecture of Nigeria’s ports. He noted that the equipment would improve the operational capacity of the Ports Authority Police in protecting critical maritime infrastructure, safeguarding port users, and preventing security breaches within the ports and adjoining waterfronts.
The items presented included bulletproof vests, tactical helmets, raincoats, operational boots, handcuffs, batons, touch lights, and other essential equipment to enhance the safety, preparedness, and effectiveness of police personnel.
Receiving the equipment, the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, CP Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, psc, mnips, commended the NPA management for the timely intervention and sustained support for the Command.
She described the donation as a testament to the strong partnership between the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigeria Police Force in securing the country’s maritime gateways.
Agbaminoja assured that the equipment would be effectively deployed to strengthen policing operations and improve security across the ports.
She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment that supports efficient port operations, seamless trade facilitation, and economic growth, while pledging continued collaboration with maritime stakeholders to keep Nigeria’s seaports safe, resilient, and globally competitive.
