The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has concluded plans to honour its past presidents in what it describes as a first-of-its-kind appreciation event in the maritime media sector.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Tunde Ayodele, and the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Funso Olojo, the association said the ceremony will celebrate former leaders whose dedication and sacrifices helped transform MARAN into a leading voice in maritime journalism.

The event is scheduled to hold at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, on April 24, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., with friends, associates and stakeholders across the maritime industry expected to attend.

Ayodele said the ceremony will also honour four deceased past presidents with posthumous awards in recognition of their contributions to the association. According to him, family members of the late leaders have been invited to be part of the event.

He noted that the initiative reflects MARAN’s commitment to recognising leadership, resilience and service, describing the former presidents as key figures who shaped the association into one of the most influential groups of maritime journalists in Nigeria.

Ayodele also highlighted the recent professional milestone of one of the association’s past presidents, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, who was recently appointed Special Adviser on Communications to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola.

He said the appointment has brought pride to the association and provides an additional reason to celebrate the legacy and impact of MARAN’s past leadership.
