The Group Managing Director of leading financial services firm, Zedcrest Group, Adedayo Amzat, has officially launched his memoir, Building in Chaos: From Sawdust to Green Rugs, during a grand ceremony marking his 40th birthday celebration in Lagos.
The milestone event attracted family members, business leaders, captains of industry, media personalities, and other distinguished guests who gathered to celebrate both a personal milestone and the unveiling of a book chronicling Amzat’s life journey, entrepreneurial struggles, and leadership philosophy.
The evening featured the formal commissioning of the memoir, goodwill tributes, reflections on Amzat’s professional and personal journey, networking sessions, entertainment, and a surprise musical performance that heightened the celebratory atmosphere.
Speaking through the narrative of his newly launched memoir, Amzat offers a deeply personal account of growing up amid hardship in Nigeria and navigating the difficult path to building one of the country’s notable financial services institutions.
Building in Chaos: From Sawdust to Green Rugs traces his early years shaped by modest living conditions, crowded neighbourhoods, and economic limitations, while recounting a pivotal childhood encounter with privilege that ignited his ambition and reshaped his outlook on success and opportunity.
The memoir follows his journey through school, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), banking, including his stint at Access Bank, and the eventual establishment of Zedcrest Group. It also documents the difficult formative years of Zedvance, regulatory setbacks, investment missteps, personal challenges, and the persistence required to build a sustainable institution.
Beyond a personal story, the book reflects on Nigeria’s social inequalities, economic realities, and untapped human potential, while advocating for systems that create opportunities regardless of background.
Described as both a memoir and a commentary on ambition, resilience and nation-building, the book explores the emotional cost of success and the responsibility of leadership in a complex environment.
With the official unveiling of Building in Chaos at his 40th birthday celebration, Amzat adds author to a career already defined by entrepreneurship and corporate leadership, contributing a personal perspective to conversations around legacy, enterprise, and Nigeria’s future.
