In a bid to address some of the challenges linked to gender inequality in the maritime and energy sectors, the promoters of Women in Maritime and Energy Awards (WIMEAwards) engaged the Country Director of SLB (Schlumberger).
Both organisations also strengthened collaborative efforts towards empowering women in the critical sectors.
These issues, as well as other initiatives as part of preparations for the 2025 edition of the WIMEAwards, were explored when a delegation led by the Chairperson, WIME Advisory Board, Dr. Chizoba Anyika, paid a courtesy visit to the Country Director of SLB, Dr. Nosa Omorodion.
Meanwhile, the meeting emphasized the importance of recognizing and celebrating the contributions of women professionals while exploring opportunities for mentorship, leadership development, and capacity building.
Speaking on behalf of WIMEAwards, Anyika, who is also a Deputy Director at NIMASA, acknowledged SLB’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.
“The upcoming WIME Awards aim to honor trailblazing women who are driving change in maritime and energy. SLB’s ongoing support for gender equality is commendable, and we look forward to future collaborations that will create more opportunities for women in these industries,” Anyika said.
On his part, the SLB’s Country Director, Dr. Omorodion, reiterated the company’s dedication to advancing gender inclusion.
“At SLB, we believe that diversity strengthens our industry. We are proud to engage with WIMEA in recognizing excellence and inspiring more women to take up leadership roles in maritime and energy,” Omorodion stated.
The courtesy visit comes as final preparations are underway for the WIME Awards 2025, set to take place on March 28. The event will honor outstanding women professionals and organizations championing gender diversity in the maritime and energy sectors.
The meeting concluded with discussions on potential partnerships, sponsorships, and long-term initiatives that will further enhance women’s representation in STEM, technical roles, and leadership within these industries.
