The Customs Area Controller of the Tincan Island Port Command, Comptroller Joe Anani, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), while announcing an upcoming sensitisation programme on the Federal Government’s Green Tax surcharge.

Speaking during a visit to the ANLCA Tincan Island Port Chapter Secretariat on Thursday, Anani said the awareness campaign would target both freight forwarders and Customs officers to ensure seamless implementation of the new policy.

According to him, the Green Tax surcharge provides reduced levies for brand-new vehicles and some reductions for used vehicles, making it important for licensed customs agents to understand the policy and properly educate importers.

“In the area of sensitisation, we will continue to ensure that members of ANLCA are carried along in every training we organise at the Tincan Island Customs Command. There will be an immediate sensitisation on the Green Tax surcharge for freight agents and Customs officials.

“The summary of the surcharge is that levies are being reduced for brand-new vehicles as well as some reduction for used vehicles. We expect the sensitisation programme will put freight agents in a better position to enlighten and educate their importers,” he said.

The Customs Area Controller also described ANLCA as a strategic stakeholder in the command’s drive to boost revenue collection and combat smuggling.

Anani stressed that effective collaboration between Customs and licensed customs agents remains essential to achieving the Nigeria Customs Service’s revenue generation and anti-smuggling objectives.

“We have come here today to reaffirm our partnership with ANLCA and to remind you that all hands must be on deck to take Tincan Island Port to the next level. We are ready to give you the support needed for a constructive and mutually beneficial relationship,” he added.

The Customs chief also commended the Chairman of ANLCA Tincan Island Port Chapter, Prince Olawale Cole, for his longstanding support for the command and his leadership within the association.

He noted that Cole had consistently supported the Tincan Island Port Command long before becoming the Chapter Chairman and expressed optimism that he would eventually assume a leadership position at the national level of ANLCA.

Responding, Prince Cole welcomed the Customs Area Controller’s visit, describing it as another milestone in the longstanding relationship between both organisations.

He also conveyed the goodwill of the ANLCA National President, Chief Emenike Nwokeoji, and reaffirmed the chapter’s commitment to sustaining collaboration with the Tincan Island Port Command.

“I am surprised and delighted to have you here at the ANLCA Tincan Secretariat. ANLCA Tincan Island Port Chapter has always had a fruitful and productive working relationship with Tincan Island Customs.

“I want to assure you that we will continue to extend that hand of partnership and collaboration under your leadership at the command,” Cole said.

The visit underscored renewed efforts by both the Nigeria Customs Service and ANLCA to strengthen stakeholder engagement, improve trade facilitation, enhance compliance with government policies, and support efficient cargo clearance at the nation’s second-busiest seaport.

ANLCA Public Relations Officer at Tincan Island Port Chapter, Comrade Onome Joy, disclosed this information in a press statement.

Meanwhile, News Diet gathered that Comptroller Anani, subsequently visited the Tincan Island Port secretariat of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) where he reiterated the same collaboration and engagement.
