The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has delivered a historic revenue performance in 2025, smashing its annual target and posting a surplus of over N51.8 billion.
Speaking at an end-of-the-year media briefing in Lagos, on Tuesday, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Frank Onyeka, disclosed that the Command generated N1.576 trillion in revenue against an assigned target of N1.524 trillion, exceeding expectations by N51.84 billion.
Comptroller Onyeka credited the feat to disciplined leadership, professionalism, and sustained reforms that tightened processes and blocked revenue leakages. He said bulk cargo, general merchandise, and used vehicle imports emerged as the Command’s major revenue drivers during the year.
According to him, strict cargo examination, full compliance with customs regulations, and the deliberate elimination of multiple and unnecessary alerts significantly improved efficiency while ensuring accurate revenue collection.
He noted that enhanced internal coordination and proactive stakeholder engagement with importers, licensed customs agents, terminal operators, and shipping lines created a more predictable and transparent trade environment.
Beyond revenue, the CAC stressed that the Command remained firm on enforcement, with intelligence-led operations resulting in notable seizures of prohibited and improperly declared goods.
“Exceeding our target does not mean lowering standards. Our officers remain fully mobilized to sustain revenue growth, enforce compliance, and protect national economic and security interests,” Onyeka assured.
He expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for strategic leadership and support, noting that the achievement aligns with the Service’s reform and modernization drive. He also commended stakeholders, officers, and the media for their cooperation and professionalism.
“As we build on these gains, Tin Can Island Port Command remains committed to transparency, efficiency, and supporting the Federal Government’s fiscal objectives,” he said.
