All is set for the 4th edition of the African Maritime Art Exhibition (AMAE), West Africa’s only art exhibition dedicated to the Maritime and Blue Economy – scheduled to hold on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island.
Organisers say the high-profile event will open with a formal ceremony at which His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, will serve as Special Guest of Honour and Chief Host; while Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), will serve as Chairman of the Occasion.
Other dignitaries expected include; Mr. Charles Ebuebu, Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), and Mr. Ahmed Sodangi, Director General of the National Gallery of Art (NGA) – both of whom have confirmed their attendance.
Organised by Media Traction, owners of Maritime TV Africa and Hazi’s Art, AMAE has evolved into a premier platform celebrating the intersection of art, culture, innovation, and ocean sustainability.
The 2025 edition, which will hold in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art (NGA), the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), among other partners, is themed “A Thousand Words from the Blue.” It will spotlight artistic expressions that drive awareness, education, and investment in Africa’s Blue Economy.
Speaking to journalists, the Convener and Programme Director, Ezinne Azunna, said this year’s exhibition brings together government leaders, maritime professionals, the creative sector, academia, and members of the diplomatic community.
“On display will be the works of over 13 artists, spanning photography, painting, mosaic, ceramics, sculpture, textile, and educational art, exploring Nigeria’s and the continent’s ocean heritage and the creative economy’s role in shaping its future,” she said.
AMAE 2025 is also collaborating with the Nigeria Maritime Expo (NIMAREX) and will serve as a side event of the revered maritime conference.
“AMAE is not just an art exhibition; it is a convergence of culture and commerce within the maritime and blue economy space.
*Through the power of art, we tell stories that inspire responsible stewardship in the Blue Economy while promoting Africa’s creative talent,” Azunna said.
Now in its fourth edition, AMAE continues to attract participation from industry regulators, shipping and port executives, development partners, artists, and maritime academies across Africa.
The 2025 exhibition will feature a curated showcase of marine-themed artworks, photography, sculptures, and installations inspired by the continent’s waterways and blue heritage.
Azunna noted that this edition aims to deepen cross-sector collaboration between the maritime industry and the creative ecosystem, highlighting the role of art in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water) and fostering a sustainable Blue Economy in Africa.
“Each artwork speaks to the connection between humanity and the ocean. This year, we are celebrating voices from Africa whose creativity tells our shared Blue story,” the Convener added.
