…targets fully digitalized processes by August 2024
As part of strategies to boost revenue generation, the nation’s port economic regulator, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) is set to implement an Integrated Customs Tariff Nomenclature (ICTN).
The Executive Secretary of NSC, Barr. Pius Akutah, revealed this on Thursday while speaking at the opening ceremony of the Council’s 3-day Strategic Management Retreat in Abeokuta, themed: “Unlocking the Potentials of the Marine and Blue Economy for Rapid National Economic Development.”
Akutah stressed that ICTN will aid the agency’s fiscal drive as the agency looks to add revenue generation to its previously pure regulatory and mediatory functions in the maritime sector.
He equally assured that the Council would attain fully digitalized processes with paperless operations by August 2024 in a bid to drive service efficiency and contribute revenue to the Federal Government.
On the management’s quest to meet the presidential Key Performance Bond, Akutah said the agency was determined to make evident contribution to the development and implementation of a national policy on Marine & Blue Economy.
“We aim to create a robust policy framework that harnesses the potential of our marine resources. This is ongoing and our contributions must be evident.”
“Also crucial is the establishment of inland dry ports and vehicle transit areas, crucial for efficient cargo movement; as well as the deployment of an enterprise content management system (ECMS) to drive set goals, among others,” he said.
Meanwhile, he equally stressed the need for an amendment of the Shippers’ Council Act to empower the agency as the Port Economic Regulator.
The NSC boss also posited that the Council’s 2024 programmes will include capacity building programmes and courses specially tailored for the unique mandate of the agency, as well as international exposure to global perspectives.
He maintained that these NSC goals will only be achieved through collaboration with other industry stakeholders as the Council seeks to restructure its operations and build a culture change.
