Seme Customs Facilitates N7.8bn Exports In February

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has facilitated 28,395 metric tonnes of exports valued at N7,852,172,249.00 in February 2025.

The Seme Customs Area Controller, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, disclosed this during a press conference on Thursday, where he reiterated that the Command will leverage on trade facilitation initiatives to foster a more efficient, transparent and predictable trade environment at the land border post.

According to him, the Command’s February export, which is equivalent to 806 trucks of export produce, underlines its commitment to trade facilitation and an enhanced enabling environment for business.

Comptroller Oramalugo also stated that Command was able to generate N743million revenue in the month under review following huge efforts to streamline loopholes for revenue leakages.

Speaking on anti-smuggling operations, the Seme Customs boss posited that the Command within the period under review seized the following items; 444 parcels of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana), 181 packs of Tramadol, 600 bottles of Codeine Syrup (100ml each), 240 kegs of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS).

Other seizures were; 1,809 bags of Foreign Parboiled Rice (50kg each), 17 sacks of used shoes, 56 bales of used clothes and 203 pieces of used tyres.

The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizures is N267,054,172, even as Oramalugo stressed that the seizures contravene relevant sections of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 (NCSA 23).

Meanwhile, he opined that the achievements of the Seme Area Command within this short period are the result of the unwavering support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, and his NCS management team.

He equally commended the dedication and professionalism of the Command’s officers, and noted the effective deployment of intelligence-driven strategies and robust inter-agency collaboration as well as stakeholder engagement.
