By Victoria Adonye Ibiama

As part of activities to celebrate the yuletide festivities, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has given the nod for a substantial N100,000 bonus for each civil servant in the state.

News Diet gathered that this unprecedented bonus will be distributed among the millions of workers across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in the state.

Mr. Joe Johnson, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, announced on Tuesday that the approval was granted for “immediate implementation, enabling civil servants to enjoy a wonderful yuletide celebration.”

This marks a significant departure from the norm, as it is the first time in a considerable period that civil servants in Rivers State will receive Christmas bonuses, and the amount is noteworthy—exceeding three times the value of the nation’s minimum wage.

Governor Fubara, who consistently expressed his commitment to enhancing the welfare of civil servants and advocating for the interests of low-income earners, has fulfilled this promise by authorizing this substantial Christmas bonus.

During the presentation of the 2024 budget proposal of N800 billion to the Edison Ehie-led Rivers State House of Assembly last week, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his dedication to addressing the manpower gap in the civil service. He pledged to expedite the recruitment process to fill vacancies and strengthen the workforce.

It’s noteworthy that Fubara, the immediate past Accountant General of the state, stands out as the first civil servant to ascend to the position of Governor in Rivers State.
