NBC Lauds Artistic Expression Of Maritime Heritage At AMAE 2024

The Director General of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Barr. Charles Ebuebu, commended the intersection of maritime heritage, artistic expression, and Africa’s dynamic culture portrayed at the 2024 African Maritime Arts Exhibition (AMAE).

Ebuebu, who was represented by NBC Lagos Zonal Director, Mr. Ralph Akpan, made this remark while speaking at the event in Lagos at the weekend, even as he observed that the maritime domain has always been pivotal to Africa’s development, connecting civilizations, fostering trade, and shaping the diverse cultures.

His words: “Today, this exhibition is not just a display of art but a tribute to the men and women who have navigated our waters and contributed to Africa’s maritime legacy. It is a reminder of our shared history, the importance of preserving our marine ecosystems, and the need to inspire future generations to embrace the maritime industry as a cornerstone of sustainable development.

“The featured works by talented artists from across the Nigeria vividly capture the essence of our maritime story—its triumphs, its challenges, and its untapped potentials. Each piece is a testament to the power of creativity to educate, inspire, and unite us in pursuit of shared goals.”

He observed that from the historic trade routes of the West African coast to the bustling ports of thw present-day economies, the seas and oceans have served as silent witnesses the African continent’s growth and resilience.

Ebuebu encouraged the stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime sector to remain committed to supporting the growth of maritime-related industries and building collaborations between cultural institutions, and the arts community to underscore the interconnectedness of a shared mission.

“As we embark on this journey through the exhibition, let us remember that art, like the sea, knows no boundaries. It has the power to bring us together, bridge divides, and deepen our understanding of the world and each other. Let this event serve as a platform to promote dialogue, innovation, and collaboration within Africa’s maritime sector.

“I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the organizers of this exhibition for their dedication and vision.
