MAN Oron Strategizes For Performance Bond Realization At Management Retreat

Following the signing of performance bond by heads of agencies in the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to meet with presidential target on blue governance, the management of Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron led by Commodore Duja Emmanuel Effedua (Rtd) has explored strategies to attain optimal performance at a management retreat for the Academy’s Directors and Heads of Departments.

Declaring the two-day retreat open at the Academy, the Rector stated that the Marine and Blue Economy Ministry was established to enable the country harness the full potentials in the blue economy and emphasised the need for the Academy as an arm of the ministry to play an active role towards the realisation of the blue economy economic plan.

The Rector, who was represented by the Registrar of the Academy, Mr. Peter Netson, stressed that the retreat aligns with the presidential directive to Ministers of the Federation to set definite roadmaps towards the actualisation of the national goals.

“This is a vision and mandate we must key into with all sense of duty, it is not ambiguous or difficult to understand; shape in or ship out, perform or go.

“It is a rebranding and rebuilding dispensation with a greater vigour, and we cannot afford to be found wanting”, he said.

He also reiterated the need for members of staff to maximise the gains of the retreat as it would set a template for the institution’s 2024 performance scorecard and further expressed optimism that insights gained from the workshop would help the institution achieve its deliverables within the stipulated time.

Setting the tone for the workshop from the office of the Head of Service of the Federation’s perspective, Mrs. Bosede Olaniyi who spoke via zoom said that the office of the Head of Service is poised to institutionalize the modern performance system in the public service as mandated by the Federal government.

She observed that the essence of reforms in public service was to ensure a fit-for-purpose service and added that the modern performance system reform would ensure that the federal government’s target for a better economy is achievable.

While commending the efforts of the Academy’s Rector at repositioning the institution for excellence especially in the area of human and infrastructural capacity building, she stated that the modern performance system is characterised with objectivity, accountability and fairness.

“The Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan has six pillars, one of which is Capacity Building which the Rector of Academy, Effedua is very good at. We have seen a lot of his achievements in terms of capacity building of Academy’s staff and even in the maritime sector”, she said.

The workshop was well attended by Directors, heads of departments and senior staff of the Academy.
