Ezinne ga nke oma

A mom’s hug lasts long after she lets go – Country Living

There were teary eyes and a sea of sad faces as late Mama Margaret Chidinma Onuzuruike, the mother of Faithwin Nwaogu of the Public Relations Unit at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) was buried in Amaogwugwu Ohuhu, Umuahia North, Abia State.

Margaret who lived a long and beautiful 86-years was known for her affectionate care and loving hugs which always lasted long after she let go. This is indeed one of the virtues of a good mother as captured in Country Living, America’s popular home and lifestyle magazine.

News Diet observed the moments as tears dripped from the loving eyes of mama’s children and grandchildren as while she was lowered into the ground. Family members, relatives and friends called for utmost caution during the carriage as though she could still feel any discomfort from the hassles.

Nonetheless, a deafening silence struck when the corpse was finally in the ground. Only the noise of the shovels carrying sand could be heard. Dark tinted eyeglasses could no longer hide tears as mama’s remains were covered in rich reddish Umuahia sand.

“Ezinne ga nke oma” a grieving woman whispered by the burial ground.

Ezinne is an Igbo name meaning “true mother” or “exemplary mother”.

Ga nke oma meaning “good trip” or “safe journey”.

Earlier, the officiating minister at the funeral service, Pastor Isaac Okereke testified that mama Onuzuruike lived a fulfilled Christian life.

He said: “Late Margaret was a true soldier of the Cross and a follower of the Lamb, having been baptised in 1956. Ever since she and her husband embraced the gospel under Faith Tabernacle Congregation Church, she was never shaken in her faith.

“Despite the fact she suffered great trials and temptations she maintained her steadfast belief and trust in God”.

Okereke charged everyone to emulate her good works of faith, and embrace Christ just like mama Onuzuruike, noting that she has fought the good fight of and gone to rest in the Lord.

Amid pain and tears, the children, friends, relatives and relations said mama will be greatly missed.

In a mixed feeling of farewell to the mother, Mr. Uchenna Onuzuruike speaking on behalf of the family expressed gratitude to God “for the opportunity to these many years with our mother”.

He extended appreciation to friends and well wishers for their show of love and support in various forms at this crucial moment.

A mother’s love is always with her children. Although losing a mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know, a mother’s love is always with her children. Mama Margaret’s goodness, care, and wisdom live on — like a legacy of love that will always be with her family.
