The Minister of Transport, Alhaji Muazu Sambo, has expressed delight at the prospects of Lekki deep seaport project which is expected to provide over 112,000 jobs for Nigerians and significantly increase the nation’s tonnage.
Sambo made this remark on Sunday, in Jalingo, Taraba state while speaking with newsmen.
Beside the massive employment opportunities, the Minister also stressed that the seaport would bring more tonnage which guarantees additional revenue for the nation.
Describing the seaport as the first of its kind to be in operation in Nigeria, Sambo said the deep seaport project would impact positively on the nation’s economy.
His words: “Lekki deep seaport is significant because the largest ships in the world can berth at the Port. That means, more tonnage, more cargoes, more revenue for the port and for the country, more economic activities. And above all more jobs like I said, over 112, 000 both direct and indirect jobs will be created as a result of the creation of the Lekki deep-sea port.”
“This will be in the first few years and as time goes on and as activities expand, the number of the jobs will even multiply and that is what is good for the nation”
According to the Transport Minister, as more jobs are provided for Nigerians the nation will be enhancing the standard of living of the citizens and reducing the poverty margin.
