…surpasses 2023 revenue by N476bn
The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday said it has recorded a revenue generation of N986.3billion between January and October 22, 2024.
While engaging a visiting executive delegates of the League of Maritime Editors and Publishers, the Area Controller, TCIP Customs, Compt. Dera Nnadi mni, described the figure as very significant considering the fact that the entire revenue collected in the Command in 2023 was just N716.4billion
Nnadi’s words: “What this means is that even though the year has not ended we have surpassed last year’s collection by N476bn”.
He equally added that the Command has recorded massive seizures during the period and put the duty paid value of the various seizures at N4.5billion.
“This is also significant considering that within the period in 2023, we collected N1.51bn equivalent of items that were seized. It means we surpassed last year’s seizures figure by N3.4bn”, the TCIP Customs boss said.
He commended the Comptroller General of the Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for giving officers of the Command all the support and motivation that have helped in their performance.
Meanwhile, Nnadi stressed that the management of the Customs led by Adeniyi is aware that the federal government relies so much on the revenue from the Customs to offset some obligations to Nigerians and very proud to contribute to this objective.
He added that the Customs Command is always ready to collaborate with traditional stakeholders in line with the fundamental pillars of the CGC, Adeniyi, with the vision of “collaboration, consolidation and innovation”.
He disclosed that every week, the Command chooses a new slogan to help motivate officers and men of the Command in their job, announcing this week’s slogan as “reform or regret”.
In her remarks, the President of League, Mrs Remi Itie congratulated the Customs Command for all the achievements and the efforts of the Controller in revenue generation and anti-smuggling.
Mrs Itie posited that she was not surprised that Nnadi has been performing creditably in Tin Can Island Port considering his impressive records while serving at Seme Border.
She promised that members of the League will always support the leadership of the Customs, Adeniyi, and the entire Customs management in their national assignment at the seaports, airports and border stations.
