COFFHA Set To Empower Market Women, Girls In Lagos

The Committee of Friends for Humanity (COFFHA) is set to host a landmark empowerment event for market women and girls on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Themed “Service to Humanity”, the event Biller to commence by 11am, aims to catalyze transformation in the lives of market women through business registration support, funding, digital skills training, customer service orientation, and simple bookkeeping education.

Chairman/CEO of Ultimate Gas Limited, Ahaji Auwalu Ahmed Ilu, will serve as Chairman of the Day, bringing his resources as a sponsor and his over two decades of experience in energy, maritime, and logistics to inspire participants on building sustainable businesses.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Marine Transport, Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun, will play the role of father-of-the-day and Senator Uche Ekwunife serves as mother-of-the-day.

The CEO, Sactin Nigeria Limited, High Chief Mrs Justina Agbagua Okpo, serves as matron-of-the-day.

Special Guest of Honour is Hon. Sola Giwa, Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, renowned for his strategic contributions to transport policy formulation and grassroots activism.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mrs. Augustina Igbokwe, President of COFFHA, stated that “the day will be a new day for the participants. It will be a new beginning, a powerful and transformative beginning – a beginning of growth and empowerment.”

“We are privileged to be chosen by God to be part of it. We all gathered here today to empower and strengthen our market women – our mothers and our sisters.”

COFFHA, which was founded in 1991, and formally incorporated in 1993; is a charity, non-profit organization made up of accomplished women who have excelled in various fields of endeavour and are recognized for their integrity and selfless contributions to society.

Its mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities, drawing strength from members’ diverse resources and experiences.

Over the years, COFFHA has earned a strong reputation for responding swiftly to societal needs, offering assistance without discrimination based on age, tribe, political affiliation, or religion.

The non-profit organisation aligns its activities with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including No Poverty, Good Health and Well-being, Gender Equality, and Decent Work and Economic Growth.

In 2021, COFFHA was granted Special Consultative Status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), enabling it to strengthen advocacy efforts in areas such as widow empowerment, medical outreach, street feeding, and community support.

The event will also feature expert-led sessions on business sustainability, customer relations, legal compliance, and bookkeeping for small enterprises, as well as direct empowerment interventions for selected market women.
