Five riverine communities in Lagos are set to get safe water as Blue Lagos Sustainability Initiative, working with Uriel Construction Limited, has begun building five solar-powered boreholes across four local government areas.
The Koh Pbat Campaign Team is sponsoring all five projects through Uriel Construction. The boreholes will serve Seje Jegba in Badagry, Sagbonkodji in Amuwo-Odofin, Olomometa in Ojo, and Agadangba (Ward C1) and Igbo Apawa (Ward D1) in Epe.
Solar power cuts reliance on conventional electricity, a major constraint in riverine areas where infrastructure is thin. The projects are expected to improve domestic water access, sanitation and public health.
The announcement coincided with a multi-sectoral medical and humanitarian outreach at Ebute Ajagun, Iworo, in Badagry. It reached residents of Daddy Louis, Ajido, Etesa, Epe and Ebute Eleja.
The Medical & Safety Directorate of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) sponsored free medical services, while its Humanitarian Affairs Directorate donated food palliatives. Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, donated fish-smoking kilns to support local livelihoods. The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) donated life jackets for safer travel and fishing.
Blue Lagos Team Lead, Mr. Saheed Adesanya, said residents should not be shut out of development because of where they live.
He said the outreach builds on earlier interventions in Sagbonkodji, Takwa Bay and Ilado-Odo in Amuwo-Odofin, and in Epe communities including Yegunda, Ito Omu, Isan and Oko-Abe.
According to him, the initiative pairs immediate relief with lasting interventions in health, livelihoods and waterway safety.
Blue Lagos thanked its Patron, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, Special Adviser to the Governor on Blue Economy, along with LASWA, Dr Finnih, the RHA Humanitarian Affairs Directorate led by Ms Bisola Olusanya, and the Koh Pbat Campaign Team. It called for sustained collaboration among government, corporate bodies and development partners.
