The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) has urged the government and Nigerians to work toward creating a more peaceful and stable environment, stating the nation can only thrive in times of peace.
President, NIM, retired Commodore Abimbola Ayuba, gave the advice on Wednesday in Lagos via a statement in reaction to incidents of insecurity in Benue.
Ayuba, condemning the latest spates of attacks at Yelewata, Benue, urged government at all levels, security agencies and stakeholders to work together for a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
He noted that the nation could only move forward in times of peace and that the foreign direct investment being clamoured for by the government could only be attracted when the nation is at peace.
“The institute is deeply saddened by the recent surge in violent attacks and senseless killings in Benue State and other parts of Nigeria and condemns it in its entirety.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.
“NIM calls on the government, security agencies, and stakeholders to take immediate action to address the root causes of these conflicts and ensure justice for the victims and their families,” he said.
The NIM president also reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to promoting peace, stability, and development in the country.
He said that Nigeria could only realise its full potentials when all the citizens were united, presenting a common front.
Ayuba acknowledged the efforts of the Federal Government, including the visit by President Bola Tinubu to the state.
“There is need to do more in order to bring a lasting solution to the dire situation before it degenerates to humanitarian crisis,” he said.
