The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Dr. George Akume, CON, has commended the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) for taking the lead in digital reform with the launch of its Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS), describing the initiative as a major boost to the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business agenda.

Speaking at the official unveiling ceremony held on Tuesday at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, Senator Akume said the new ECMS would significantly enhance operational efficiency, eliminate administrative delays and elevate the quality of public service delivery. He urged other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to emulate the Council’s forward-looking approach to digital transformation.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, applauded the Council for being the first agency to formally invite her to an ECMS launch. She noted that the deployment aligns fully with the Federal Government’s digitalisation directive, stressing that all MDAs are expected to adopt similar systems to streamline operations.

Describing the ECMS as a “digital ecosystem that minimizes delays, prevents loss of records, and fosters unity and clarity across departments,” Walson-Jack urged the Council’s leadership to invest in sustained capacity building and digital literacy for staff. She reaffirmed her office’s readiness to support agencies implementing meaningful and measurable reforms.

In his remarks, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, hailed the initiative as timely and strategic, noting that the maritime sector is increasingly reliant on technology to drive efficiency, transparency and global competitiveness.

He described the Shippers’ Council’s digital leap as “a commendable step that strengthens the foundation for more efficient service delivery.”

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr. Akutah Pius Akutah, MON, was urged by stakeholders to ensure full integration of the ECMS into the Council’s workflow to maximize its transformative value.

The launch marks a significant milestone in the Council’s modernization drive, reinforcing its role as an economic regulator committed to innovation, transparency and improved service delivery in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
