MWUN Ends Dispute With Pioneer President-General ‘Ukaummunna’

The leadership of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, on Wednesday, brokered peace with the Union’s pioneer President-General, Comrade Uzoije Ukaummunna at his residence in Lagos.

News Diet recalls that a leadership tussle that engulfed the Union and the former President -General resulted in a face-off had lasted for 23 years – leaving the inaugural MWUN President General distanced from the Union’s activities.

On Wednesday, however, the current President-General of MWUN, who doubles as the Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Adeyanju with his entire executives decided that the protracted fuss be laid to rest so to pave way for a reunion with one of its “founding fathers”, Comrade Uzoije Ukaummunna.

Comrade Adeyanju during the event praised Ukaummunna for his doggedness, resilience with sheer tolerance during the turbulent period.

Adeyanju further described Ukaummunna as a workaholic Founding Father of note in the merger of the four unions in 1996; stating that the pioneer MWUN PG’s veins runs with blood of meekness.

“His generosity is unquantifiable as he brought a lot of innovations to the Union as its first President-General. It is on record that Comrade Uzoije purchased the property in Abuja that is today known as Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria Annex. This is one amongst the numerous legacies he left behind. And we are proud to say that he is our Pioneer President-General,” Comrade Adeyanju said.

During the colourful peace meeting, Comrade Uzoije in company of his wife thanked Prince Adeyanju for breaking the jinx of years that held father and children bound.

They also thanked the members of the Union for reaching out in love and burying the hatchet; while praying also that all previous sins be forgiven, stressing that to err is human and to forgive is divine.

Dr Adeyanju responded in similar tone praying for both couple, wishing them a happy life in good health enmeshed in longevity.
