The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has announced the death of Comrade Chris Eromosele Idagbonre, a former Vice President-General of the union, who passed away after a brief illness.
Comrade Idagbonre, who retired in 2025, served the union for over 25 years, rising through the ranks to become one of its national leaders. He began his career at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Lagos, and was an active member of the NPA Branch of MWUN, where he built a reputation for dedication and integrity.
Described as a pragmatic and committed trade unionist, Idagbonre was widely respected for his passion for labour matters and his humane approach to leadership. The President-General of MWUN, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, paid tribute to the late unionist, describing him as a selfless leader and a dependable mediator in conflict resolution.
“Comrade Chris was one of those you could always rely on in times of disagreement. He had a rare ability to bring people together,” Bunu said.
MWUN expressed deep condolences to the Idagbonre family and prayed for the repose of his soul. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date.
