The National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) has clinched the Best African Travel Association Award at the prestigious African Tourism Awards held in London, United Kingdom.

The award, presented on Sunday, November 2, at the Hilton Hotel, Canary Wharf, recognized NANTA’s resilience, innovation, and consistent efforts in promoting sustainable intra-African travel and tourism. It also celebrated the association’s strong representation of Nigeria’s cultural tourism offerings at the World Travel Market (WTM) London over the past three years.

NANTA becomes the first-ever recipient of the category, a milestone described by the organisers as “a tribute to the association’s leadership and unwavering commitment to Africa’s tourism growth.”

Though unavoidably absent at the event, NANTA President, Mr. Yinka Folami, expressed delight at the honour, calling it “a motivating recognition” of the association’s work.

Representing him at the ceremony were Mrs. Susan Akporiaye, immediate past president; Mrs. Lola Adewole, National Publicity Secretary; and Mr. Johnson Ugochukwu, National Internal Auditor.

“I was on my way to London for WTM and felt elated that our efforts are being acknowledged, not only by the organisers but also by Nigerians in the diaspora who continue to identify with NANTA.

“Although we did not officially participate this year, it’s heartwarming that our members maintained a strong presence at WTM,” Mr. Folami said.

Speaking on the vision behind the recognition, Mr. Efetobo Awhana, Executive Producer of the African Tourism Awards, noted that the initiative seeks to spotlight Africa’s best operators and destinations while reshaping the continent’s tourism narrative.

“The African Tourism Award celebrates excellence in travel by Africans and for Africans. It’s about telling Africa’s story from within and inspiring more intra-African travel.”

The award ceremony served as a prelude to the official opening of WTM London 2025, setting the tone for renewed collaboration and engagement in global cultural tourism promotion.
