NIWA Partners Toyota/Yamaha For Viable Boat Engines

In a bid to improve the quality of boat engines utilized on the nation’s inland waterways, the National lnland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has collaborated with Toyota/Yamaha company in Nigeria for the supply and maintenance of boat engines for better outputs and stability.

The Managing Director of NIWA, Mr.Bola Oyebamiji FCIB held discussions with the Managing Director, Yamaha, Mrs Sylvia Omlenyi and her team – Ladi Doy; Regional Sales Manager (North) and Mr Adeola Alademodi; Business Unit Head (Marine) and others when they paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Oyebamiji stated that Yamaha is a well known company which has a good record of producing one of the best engines over time, therefore, he advised them to push more in their quest to meet the present day demands of operations on the nation’s waterways.

His words: “You have to move to where the world is moving, engage in research, generate your template into modern day existence of boat engine”.

The NIWA boss further advised the manufacturers to concentrate more on production of newer model machines which are low in fuel  consumption, and electric powered engines which run on zero fuel.

He also highlighted the need for the company to do follow up of all supplies, correct all the abnormalities and continuously keep them at check.

In her remarks, the Managing Director of Yamaha, Omlenyi, promised a continuous check on the boat engines going forward, adding that the company will deepen it’s mandate of usual inspection to check the boats inorder to put them to use, and also provide technical training for the staff of the Authority.

The NIWA team which joined the Managing Director for the meeting were; Surv. Henry Adimoha (GM Survey), Dr. Olawale Tijani (Technical Adviser to the MD) and Christie Fagbewesa (Task Manager to the MD).
