278 students have qualified for the regional contest after Day 1 of the ongoing competition at the 4th nationwide virtual Marine and Blue Economy Quiz, being organized by Ocean Ambassadors Foundation (OAF).
The Director of Internal Audit at Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mrs. Olamide Odusanya announced that 278 participants, out of the 1780, qualified for the regional contest which takes place today.
Odusanya, however, encouraged all participants as she stated that their participation in the quiz already makes them winners and distinguished personalities.
“It is an honour and privilege to announce that out of the 1780 students, 278 scored over 45 percent and will proceed to the next regional contest.”
“The goal is to win at every competition, hence, the participants are encouraged to apply the industry knowledge in the task at hand,” she said.
Odusanya also stressed that the event should be used to foster national unity, stating Kwame Nkrumah’s quote: “The forces that unite us are intrinsic and greater than the superimposed influences that keep us apart.”
Earlier, the President of OAF, Mrs. Violet Williams encouraged the regional participants to take the competition seriously, stressing that several young maritime professionals have won scholarships via the competition.
Williams also stated that the nation’s maritime sector holds immense potentials, but emphasized that young professionals have to be mentored and groomed in order to enable the coastal nation maximize its maritime opportunities.
