Dr. Segun Musa, Chairman and Managing Director of Widescope Logistics International, has called for stronger collaboration among maritime industry stakeholders during a courtesy visit by the Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Mr. Kingsley Onyekachi Igwe, at his Ogba, Lagos office.

The visit, which held on Tuesday, focused on strengthening collaboration among maritime industry stakeholders and improving engagement between the private and public sectors.

Dr. Musa, who is also Vice President, Air and Logistics of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), stressed the need for unity among industry groups, noting that fragmentation has weakened their influence on policy decisions.

He questioned why associations such as NAGAFF, ANLCA, and transport unions could not form a strong collective platform, arguing that a united front would enhance their negotiating power with government.

According to him, synergy among freight forwarders, maritime workers and transport unions would guarantee better access to policymakers and ensure that industry voices are heard.

Dr. Musa also criticised the tendency of government officials to rely on external advisers rather than genuine industry stakeholders, urging the CRFFN Registrar to deepen engagement with unions, haulage operators and transport groups.

He further advised stakeholders to remain politically neutral while actively engaging political aspirants ahead of elections to influence policy direction.

“Do not be partisan. Engage whoever is coming, understand their policy drive and ensure the industry’s interests are protected,” he said.

He assigned CRFFN a strategic role as a bridge between industry and government, urging the council to lead stakeholder engagement initiatives.

Dr. Musa maintained that stronger public-private synergy would drive faster economic growth, blaming poor coordination for the sector’s slow development.

In his response, the CRFFN Registrar, Igwe, praised Dr. Musa’s industry knowledge and influence, describing him as one of the few professionals with deep insight into freight forwarding.

He recalled their time together in NAGAFF, acknowledging Dr. Musa’s impact on his professional growth and pledging continued collaboration.

Igwe expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with key stakeholders to strengthen the maritime industry.
