Our Vision Is To Become West Africa’s Best Varsity – LASU VC

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has said the school aims to be the best in West Africa.

She disclosed this on Wednesday at the Lagos State University School of Basic and Advanced Studies (LASUSBAS) orientation of the newly admitted school held at the campus in Badagry, Lagos State.

Prof. Ibiyemi, who was represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Adenike Boyo, said the institution is working to assist students by giving the best.

“Our vision is to become the best university in West Africa, and you, our dear students, are an integral part of that vision.”

“At LASU, we are driven by excellence.” The programme was floated to assist admission seekers to become grounded in the A-Level programme, as a prelude to your admission into the undergraduate programme. “Without a doubt, you will be receiving a world-class education that can help you stand on your feet wherever you go from here,” she assured the students.

She further pointed out that what the institution has provided to make their one-year journey on campus successful is the best of both human and material resources available. “Our teaching and non-teaching staff are not only here to impart knowledge and sound morals into you, they are here in place of locus parenting, helping to provide guidance and direction to you whenever the need arises I urge you to please respect them,” the Vice Chancellor said.

Also, we have provided the facilities that would make your learning conducive and worthwhile. Please ensure to maximize the library, laboratories, and sports facilities provided for your benefit. With everything that we have made available, I am bold to say you have no excuse for failure in this programme. My prayer is that you all will succeed in Jesus name.

In the address of Prof. Yunus Dauda, director LASUSBAS, said, “The Vice Chancellor’s dogged determination, efforts, and commitment to achieve her mission and vision for the university led to great achievements of LASUSBAS major objectives.

“In less than two and half years of the assumption of duty of the present Vice Chancellor, LASU recorded landslide achievements. These include the establishment of four new faculties, which are Allied Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Environmental Sciences, and Library, Archival, and Information Sciences.

“The NUC in April 2023 conducted a resource verification of twenty (20) new programmes of these new faculties, and they were all cleared by the NUC for admission. Nine (9) additional courses for Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative STEM Education (ACEITSE) undergraduate B.Sc. programmes also started,” he added.
